Interview with Brett Jackson from Sea Gods

Hey! Who are you, and what are you working on?

I'm Brett, owner of SeaGods Australia. We are an ocean clothing Brand based out of Western Australia. Growing up on the ocean I have always had a deep connection and respect for the seas. My wife and I decided to start up a clothing brand aimed at all ocean lovers.

The people that share the same love we have. The people that like us are "Raised by the Tides". We've designed a brand for all that love the Sea. Whether it's surfing, fishing, swimming, windsurfing or sitting by the beach enjoying a beer. We all share the same thing.

How did you come up with the idea?

I've always been creative with the design. Growing up on the water I wanted to join the two. I have seen that there are lots of ocean sports categories and the brands that follows suit. I.e surfing brands targeting solely surfers. Fishing brands just for fishing and the list goes on.

I wanted to come up with a brand that blanketed the audience. It doesn't matter what you do on or under the water, we all share that same connection and should celebrate our love for the Sea. So we started Sea Gods and our slogan is Raised by the Tides.

What are the main challenges in your business right now?

Being new to this business world there are many challenges ahead of us. One of the main challenges at the moment is finding reputable suppliers. We would like to expand our range of apparel and find it hard to know were to look, what to look out for. We do another trial and error which can be difficult for our small businesses.

What is your favorite surf spot and why?

My favourite spot would be Secret Harbour in Western Australia. It's only a small break but I've been surfing there since I was 9 years old. I think everyone remembers there first. The first day out there was on an old shortboard that had been snapped at one stage and glassed back together. But it opened up a whole new world for me that day and I always enjoy going back there and navigating the sandbars and close outs.
