Surf and ocean lifestyle businesses may look dreamy from the outside, but founders face the same entrepreneurial challenges as others, often with added pressure from seasonality, limited resources, and volatility. A 2025 survey of Surfpreneurs Club members worldwide found that the biggest challenge is marketing and finding customers (64%), followed by product development, operations, team management, and funding. From these challenges, five key themes emerged showing what helps founders most when building and scaling surf-related businesses.
